Casen has had quite a few ear infections, some of them VERY bad. He has also had fluid in his ears forever, and his pediatric doctor was worried about hearing loss. We finally took him to the ENT and he highly recommended he get tubes put in his ears. He thought that Casen had about a 20% hearing loss from the fluid build up. We decided to go ahead with the surgery and I am really glad we did. He got the tubes put in December 16th and I am so grateful things went well. The doctor said that they were able to remover tons of fluid during the surgery and everything went really well. At his check up last week the tubes were clear and things were looking good! I think his hearing has definitely improved... everytime I turn on something loud (like my blow dryer, the blender, the wheat grinder, etc.) he runs up and while covering his ears yells "Too loud! Too loud!"

Waiting to see the doctor, trying to sneak in the drawers :)

He had to have special ear plugs made to keep water out of his ears while swimming. This is when the put the moulds in. He likes to look in the mirror with is cool blue and black ear plugs and say "ooo, ooo". But usually takes them out after :)

About 6:30 am, morning of surgery. I was a little nervous with him needing to be put under, but focusing on keeping him happy helped distract me.

He did really well waiting to go back, thank goodness for cars and Mr. Teddy Bear. The last 10 minutes he started wanting juice and a banana (a morning ritual at our house). Definitely hard for a 2 year old to fast!
After the surgery Casen definitely deserved to eat and all he wanted was a donut!

Good-bye uncomfortable, plugged-up ears!
It's so hard to watch your child go into surgery, I am glad that everything went well!! I hope that your days of ear infections are long gone.
ReplyDeletePoor guy! He looks so cute in all those pictures though!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that! Poor kid! It looks like he handled it like a champ though. I wish we could've gotten together when you guys were here. Next time for sure!
ReplyDeleteI teared up when I saw your teddy bear. How sweet! I'm so glad the surgery went well.
ReplyDeleteAh I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Putting a child under for surgery is so hard for the parents to watch :( It looks like he did awesome though! AND... YOU'RE PREGNANT!?!?! I totally don't think I knew that... CONGRATULATIONS cute prego mommy!
